"This painting was actually painted from a film still taken from a movie called The Aftermath. Not a bad movie, not a stellar one either. But there were some beautiful shots in there, and for an oil painter this particular one provided a lovely example flesh tones lit by lovely snowy ambient light, some wonderful fabric folds to contend with in that military jacket, and all framed in a tight dynamic composition of emotional tension. One thing though, if you've seen the movie please don't judge me on the likenesses, for this really wasn't my concern here. Nailing a likeness rarely comes without a lot of extra time, effort and mild mental trauma. And hey, I was just having some painterly fun here."
