"I recently watched a very good documentary on Joyce marking the 100 year anniversary of Ulysses. It gave a such a sense of a man of incredible insight, humanity and intelligence, and above all a man before his time. It's funny I've made a few attempts at reading Ulysses, and got about half way through each time. There were such beautiful passages of writing with wonderful language a real sense of getting under the skin and humanity of the character of Leopold Bloom. However, when things got less clear cut with the elusive character of Stephen Dedalus I shamefully abandoned ship. Might be almost time to give it another go."
