Art Mentorships with Vincent Keeing

(29/04/24)

Ok, this is a new one for me but I've decided to start offering One-to-one Art Mentorships for those needing some help to take their work to the next level. Here's the gist of the plan.

THE PLAN

- The classes will be over Zoom.

- Spaces will be limited.

- Ideally we'll arrange times for mid morning or afternoons of a weekday or Saturday. I might try evenings too, but usually this is when I'm lost painting at the easel, so will have to see on this.

- Price plan was 25 Euro for 25 mins, or 50 Euro for 1 hour. Will keep things pretty flexible until time slots start filling.

- My expertise is oil painting, but in recent years I've done a ton of drawing too, and started working digitally as well so we can discuss where exactly you're looking for help and see if working together might be a good fit.

SO HOW WILL IT WORK, YOU MIGHT ASK?

Well, the answer is it will involve a little digital wizardry.

Don’t worry though, you don’t need to be any kind of digital wizard yourself to take part. The idea will be for you to email me in at least two images prior to the class. One of the photo-reference they are basing your painting or drawing on, and one of the actual painting or drawing in-progress itself. Then I pop these into photoshop create a new layer, and do a little digital drawing or painting directly over your work  explaining things as I go; Pointing out whatever drawing errors or issues of value or colour I might see.

And then hopefully being able to offer ways of to counteract these flaws in the future. Each time nudging you towards sharpening your own eye and ability to self-correct. The truth is we all tend to make the same kinds of mistakes and after years of my own many many mistakes, and sorry folks but they don't disappear, I should be able to point out the landmines, pitfalls and banana skins of visual perception that tend to slip us up repeatedly.

In addition to that I'll also be as generous as I can in giving lots of pointers verbally and indicating any resources I've come across that might be valuable and useful for you to check out. I've learnt a ton of great artists online, and watched free videos as well as paid content. I've also a love of art books and have many shelves groaning with the weight, so I can offer tips there too.

It might be a case that you do a one off meeting with me, or just a couple of weeks, to get a kickstart and direction, but also great if it turns into a weekly or monthly art feedback session and check-in that helps you keep the creative torch burning into the future.

Ok, that's the pitch the next best step if you're interested is to email at vincentkeeling@gmail.com and we can have a chat about it. By the way, best to email first as well, if you wanted to have a real chat by phone first, as I'm plagued by so many scam AI phone calls these days that I don't tend to pick up, unless I know the number or am expecting a call.

Thanks for reading, and hope to hear from you soon!
