Pet Portraits

Although I'm better known for portraits of people, I have done a few pet portraits as well. And more importantly I want to paint a few more if I can. Why you might ask? Well, although I don’t own a pet myself, any time I’m out and about and see various dogs, pooches and four-legged friends they do tend to bring a smile to my face. Let’s just say I like their Joie de vive and clear philosophical take on life.

Also I’m currently reading a great little book by Paul Auster called “Timbuktu” which is told from the point of view of a very engaging dog called “Mr. Bones”, who has quite a bit to say about the world and especially his master Willie, who he loves dearly despite his questionable life choices. I think it’s a little gem.

Now as for my experience thus far painting pets, I really just have two under my belt. Both for my oldest buddy Keith, who tends collect some very good friends along the way; It’s not me I’m talking about for that would be a tad unseemly, and in truth I don’t think I measure up to the loyalty and love that Rufus and then Bella, and other four-legged friends have shown Keith over the years.
