About the Art Classes in Oil Painting

The first thing I’d like to say is that I genuinely believe that anyone can learn to paint, and that it’s not just for a select chosen few who show early natural talent. Over the years I’ve seen again and again how complete beginners can achieve great results from even a short batch of classes.
That’s not to say if you’re an experienced oil painter that you are not welcome also. I’ve been painting for almost 30 years, so I reckon I’d have a few tricks to teach even those seasoned artists amongst you. Thus, both beginners and advanced painters, are welcome, and everyone in between for that matter.
As for how I run my classes, they are pretty informal and relaxed in spirit. And unlike a workshop where a teacher might aim to teach the class as a whole, with a particular subject in mind, my classes are all about offering individual guidance to you the student with your own unique painting project.
Here’s how it works. You choose a photo reference to bring to the class, of whatever subject matter you like, and then I’ll circulate around the room offering you and every other student advice as we go. Thus, you’ll be getting tailored advice, and sometimes if requested hands-on demos, on just that aspect of your oil painting that at that moment is causing you concern.
It’s also worth noting that although we run the classes in blocks of 6 weeks this is more for admin and payment purposes, and thus once the last week is over, it’s not the end of the classes, as one block of classes invariably rolls straight into another. It’s kind of like an ongoing painting group with many students becoming regulars who make the classes part of their weekly social and creative routine.
All this to say, that if you looking to brush up (excuse the pun) on your painting skills, or you’re putting brush to canvas for the first time, I will do my best to make it a rewarding learning experience for you.
